I have recently pondered how they re-master olden goldies into glorious HD. I have made it my goal to get as many of old favorites on HD. Films like Casablanca, Star Wars and Blade Runner are given a new stream of life. The process is actually very difficult and done using machines seen above, by men in white coats below.
I managed to find a great piece about how Blade runner was converted into HD here http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article/blade-runner-how-great-hd-made
The article goes into far too much detail for me to re-gurgetate, but is well worth a read and has filled me in on things like 4K and sound conversion from Dolby 2.0 to 5.1 and in some case’s 7.1.
Also very interesting how at one point in the near future we will all be watching 4k at home. Cant wait.
