What actually is a Cityscape?

After doing quite a lot of RnD into my cityscape, I realized that I didn’t exactly know what one was. I assumed that it was an urban version of a landscape, which is correct but its not really a very thorough explanation. Wikipedia says…

“A cityscape is the urban equivalent of a landscape. Town scape is roughly synonymous with cityscape, though it implies the same difference in urban size and density (and even modernity) implicit in the difference between the words city and town. In urban design the terms refer to the configuration of built forms and interstitial space. In the visual arts a cityscape (urban landscape) is an artistic representation, such as a painting, drawing, print or photograph, of the physical aspects of a city or urban area.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cityscape).

When I type cityscape into google the first thing that comes up is Dubai…

Another typical city scape would be New York…

A not so typical cityscape would be a arabesque medina, these pictures are of Fes where I used to live…

Ive also come across some cityscapes made from strange objects, like this one made of drill bits…
